Planets and other objects go round the Sun, and these make up the Solar System:

• A star - the Sun
• Planets, which go around the Sun
• Satellites, which go around planets
• Smaller objects such as asteroids and comets

There are eight planets in the solar system. Starting with Mercury, which is the closest to the Sun, the planets are:

1. Mercury
2. Venus
3. Earth
4. Mars
5. Jupiter
6. Saturn
7. Uranus
8. Neptune
